Ramai yg beranggapan interest caj yg 17% atau 18% setahun itu adalah 'one time charge' sedangkan hakikatnya selepas dibahagi kepada 12 bulan maka interest adalah dikira berdasarkan lebih kurang 1.5% sebulan daripada amount beli hutang tertunggak dlm kad (outstanding balance)... dan untuk bulan berikutnya interest adalah dikira berdasarkan total outstanding dlm kad termasuklah interest yg telah dicaj pada bulan sebelumnya... ini dipanggil interest ke atas interest atau mungkin lebih ramai yg menyebutnya 'compounded interest'... Akibatnya jika dihitung bulan ke bulan, ada kemungkinan 'total interest' dalam amount Ringgit Malaysia dari bulan ke bulan adalah lebih daripada 17% atau 18% setahun jika dikira dengan cara 'lump sum - one time charge' seperti anggapan ramai org... Justeru itu, harus difahami bahawa 'kunci' kepada penyelesaian kad kredit sebenarnya ialah bagaimana kita dapat kurangkan atau hentikan terus kesan 'compounded interest' terhadap hutang tertunggak dlm kad kredit... Satu cara untuk kurangkan kesan akibat compounded interest ialah dengan cara kurangkan outstanding sebanyak mungkin... atau bayar terus sekali gus dan anda tak akan dikenakan interest langsung... Jika hutang masih sedikit dan mudah diuruskan mungkin boleh lah anda jelaskan outstanding tersebut dlm jumlah yg besar atau settlekan kesemuanya sekali gus... tapi bagaimana kalau hutang dah berbelas ribu malah berpuluh ribu? Tak mungkin dapat diselesaikan sekali gus atau kalau bayar byk sekali pun tak akan memberi impak yg 'significant'... Sebab itu lah saya fikir kita perlu 'restructure' outstanding dlm kad tersebut segera kepada EPP (Easy Payment Plan) - 0% interest. Tujuannya ialah untuk jimat bayar interest atau hentikan terus interest (jadi 0% interest). Malah EPP lah satu²nya cara untuk kurangkan komitmen bulanan anda membayar minimum payment sehingga 50% daripada sekarang, dengan secara tak langsung 'cashflow' anda meningkat...
